Where Past and Present Meet on the Mirage-Filled Plains of Hortobágy. Three Days in the Land of the Csikós!

Over the past decades, the Hortobágy Equestrian Days have grown into one of the region’s most significant events, gaining recognition far beyond Hungary’s borders. The main purpose of the event is to preserve and promote the past and present of the unique pastoral culture of Hortobágy, as well as to showcase the horse-breeding activities of the Mátai Stud and its historic carriage collection, which is still in active use today. The Hortobágy Equestrian Days represent a celebration of Hungarian equestrian life, bringing together professional riders, amateurs, and horse enthusiasts of all ages.

With a history spanning more than half a century, the Hortobágy Equestrian Days are considered one of the oldest and most prestigious equestrian events in Hungary. Held on the grounds of the stud farm established in 1671, the event preserves the atmosphere of the traditional horse days while presenting various aspects of contemporary equestrian culture. The unique setting of the Hortobágy Puszta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, provides an outstanding backdrop for the festivities.
